Nikole makes a good point - the wind would would carry radiation and cripple the world (including themselves).

Probably the main difference is that the Russians have about 10,000 missiles and even if we had the missile defense system perfected to a tee the Russians would wipe us out.

The N. Koreans and Iranians will never get so many missiles that we couldn't shoot them down with a totally efficient missile defense system.

They are technologically and industrially not at the same level.At this point they have not made any .
And shooting incoming conventional missiles over Pacific give USA enough reason to disrupt nuclear program in both countries.
