Here is an image of the type of molten stuff that was found in the rubble of the WTC. It is not similar to the very pure thermate residue (which is used to weld railroad rails together) but much more like the "bloom" or slag that results from the low temperature iron smelting process of mixing hotcarbon monoxide with rusting metal.
