You hit the nail on the head! I can remember a neighbor that built a helicopter in his basement. Then disassembled and re built it in his back yard.
And the guy up from us had to rebuild a 32 Ford coupe and manufacture a carburator because he couldn't find one.
The people with imagination and determination to invent what they needed are long passed.
It's a shame.
