The GOP didn't HAVE to spin Carter. He managed to uninspire, all by himself. His speeches on TV were real buzz-kills; look 'em up. His message was that America was on the downslope from greatness, and we'd better get used to it. He tried to lead America into some humble, truly Christian place it didn't want to go, and failed miserably.

I think he's our greatest EX-President, but he should never have become President. Until W, he was the worst President of my lifetime. Carter rode disgust with Nixon and Ford pardoning Nixon to victory, just as the chimp Caesar rode Clinton's BJ to victory against Gore.

Another similarity is they both claim to be "born again" Christians. Carter actually WAS, while Bush is just deluded. No more Christain Presidents, PLEASE!

I think one of Carter's great achievements was getting rid of the Panama Canal. It had become more of a sore point with South America than an asset. If only he had moved Israel to Utah.
