The moral codes are good, for the ancients, the rules on eating and agriculture were a good operating manuel, and the belief in some higher power is good. Maybe even ritual is necessary; hardwired into our genes or something.

But then each group develops some sort of ego which leads them to the view that "my way is the only way, and you need to follow." There should have been another commandment, or an amendment to the first, which said "Do not tho worry if others follow a false God. I will deal with them ,and tho just worry about thineself. Lo, shall ye live, and and, lo, shall thee allow others to live, for it is by thine deeds shall I judge thee, and not by the words of thy mouth, nor by thy devotion to ritual, except tho need to cut the tip of off thine son's dick when he is 8 days old; or else".
