DIMG: Pepperdine University Thanks Ramy El-Batrawi of DIMG for His Support to the Pepperdine University Hispanic Council Friday August 25, 4:03 pm ET BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., Aug. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- October 20, 2004 Pepperdine University in a letter to Mr. Ramy El-Batrawi wished to thank him for his support of the Pepperdine University Hispanic council. The funds were allocated to the sponsorship of the first annual American Spirit Award dinner on September 24th 2004. The purpose of this event is to promote the importance of an education among the Hispanic community and to raise scholarship funds for Hispanic students attending Pepperdine University. He continued by saying that they are always grateful and encouraged when local businesses, such as DIMG, "give back" to the community and support these events, which bring us together to celebrate achievements in our schools and neighborhoods. The letter was signed by the president, Andrew K. Benton. A further note was sent by Ronald F. Philips Vice chancellor & school of law Dean Emeritus, Pepperdine University reiterated the sentiments. Mr. El-Batrawi commented that he will always support any cause that brings the community together. The 3rd Annual American Spirit Awards Dinner was held at The Hilton Hotel Universal City/Los Angeles on Saturday, June 10, 2006. The Pepperdine University Hispanic Council was established in April 1995 and the Executive Committee in July 2003. The Councils are made up of civic-minded men and women who are willing to invest their time, energy, and personal resources to assist Hispanic students in achieving their educational objectives. The purpose of the councils is to address the educational issues facing the Hispanic community of Los Angeles, Orange, and Ventura counties. A recent study conducted by Pepperdine Fellow Gregory Rodriguez points to the emergence of a new Latino middle class in the Southwest. This segment of our society plays a major role in shaping the quality of life in California and throughout the nation. Sadly, many of these individuals lack the educational background and preparation to meet the challenges of the 21st century. It is the goal of the councils to remove the barriers that stand in the way of opportunity. The Pepperdine University Hispanic Council works to meet this goal by hosting information sessions on college entrance requirements, standardized test preparation, the admission and financial aid application process, and mentoring currently enrolled students.
