Major oil find could send prices lower
By James M. Pethokoukis

Posted 9/5/06

Preliminary drilling tests of a deep-water well in the Gulf of Mexico indicate that the site could boost U.S. oil and natural gas reserves by 50 percent. The Jack 2 well was drilled by San Ramon, Calif.-based Chevron, along with Devon Energy of Oklahoma City and Norway's Statoil.

"The results of the Jack test are very encouraging," said Stephen Hadden, senior vice president of exploration and production. "They further support our positive view of the lower Tertiary trend and demonstrate the growth potential of our high-impact exploration strategy on long-term production, reserves, and value."

Oh well, hope ever springs eternal...... that the Chinese juggernaut will self-destruct.

A civil was looming up in China? No, I don't think so. Simply because the Chinese are Chinese and are not like the westerners who believe in opposition and revolution on a whim or drop of the hat!

To be sure, Rumsfeld has been attempting to demonize China by drawing attention to China's huge spending on military hardware. But he was roundly told by the Chinese to "shut up" and rightly so because America's military budget is twice the military budget of the rest of the world, and China has about 5 times the population of America. Which means that the military budget per capita in China is far far less that that for the US.

Why has Rumsfeld been trying to demonize China? To be sure the answer is pretty obvious!
