Good luck with this new thread. As you have noted elsewhere, the posters today are simply cheerleaders for their party and the posts only have entertainment value...which have become boring and repetitious. What have we not read too many times?

Voters today are hardly taking their responsibility seriously and once again as the camapign ads run on tv, we see both sides smashing the other while making the candidate look as if they are bigger than life.

Party members desire to be dependent upon their party. It is so much easier...than having to think...

Quite a range of questions there...

Short answers for some of them -

What will happen to social security?

Short run - Nothing much. Long Run - Its really a problem, and Medicare is probably an even bigger one.

Is power/fuel independence feasable?

In the very long run yes, but your talking about generations not years, a quite possibly more than just a few generations.

Hezbollah compliance and Israeli forces in Lebanon?

I expect a muddled situation for awhile, and if it moves from muddled, it would only be to move to outright war again. I don't expect any kind of peaceful and/or durable solution any time soon.

Are international forces effective? </i?

A rather generic question. Applying it to the proposed force for Lebanon. - I really have my doubt that it will be effective.

SS was in trouble before drug coverage got added to Medicare. In its current form it is doomed. GWB was a fool to sign that drug bill. Anything for a vote, I guess.

Nationwide or household?

Hezbollah compliance and Israeli forces in Lebanon?

Are international forces effective?

No. The international force is just an observer and has no enforcement rights. Sooner or later, that will break out again. Probably sooner.

Is the UN an effective agency when dealing with terrorist organizations?
Is the Pope a Buddhist?

What's up with Iran and Syria?
Did you notice how conveniently timed the Lebanon-Israeli war was? Didn't hear a word about Iran's nuke program during it, did you?

The more nations that have nukes, the more likely nuclear war becomes.

Sanctions won't work. Europe has retreated back to its 1930's somnolence, so it seems to be up to us. Iran and Israel with nukes almost guarantees nuclear war in the ME. Both may have to be forced to stand down. This is going to be VERY messy. And Pakistan and India haven't even been thrown into the mix yet. The Paks, being Muslim. also hate Israel, but their also tied up in that Kashmir dispute with India, another nuclear power. They may have to be forced to give up nukes too.

Frankly, I can see no cause for optimism here. Stand by for nuclear war.

Immigration: Reform or not?
Amnesty? NUTS! GWB can move to Mexico if he likes them that much.

Natural Disasters?
Don't call FEMA. :-)

Honorable representation?
Eh?

Election Reform?
That's a euphemism for 'public financing of candidates'. Not no, but HELL NO!

Every time someone tells me that social security should be privatized I tell them to ask former Enron employees how their private plan fared.

What will happen to social security?
