Right. The power grid provides energy on an as needed basis with very little storage capacity. If we could make it possible for each of us to produce the power we need through solar, wind, hydro, hook a generator to the exercise bike, etc for most local needs and only dip into the grid at times when local sources weren't producing, that would make a major difference.

Most of us (myself included) have no idea what we could do locally to contribute.
