That is why the White House informed Saudi officials of the commencement of Iraq invasion ahead of informing Powell. Hmmmm, money talks in this White House, huh. Powell repeatedly asked the President if he was "prepared to own Iraq" following the invasion. Now you hear Rumsfeld say, sure the war hasn't gone as expected." That is absolutely right, because he didn't know what he was doing. Powell, however, recognized the consequences of an invasion. The people Bush listened to, however, were not as far sighted as Powell. You say, "His council (Powell) however was to use overwhelming force." That is correct. One force to invade and another force to police and protect infrastructure. Rumsfeld correctly surmised that the war could be won with fewer troops than Powell was calling for. He lacked, however, the war-time experience and was thus unable to see beyond simple invasion victory. As U.S. policy fails in Iraq, so too now is it failing in Afghanistan.... Sorry chump, but if you think the war is going well, you need new glasses or a hearing aid. The president blew it, by listening to folks that had close friends with vested interest in war, ie haliburton and KBR, amongst many others.... It's always the case, war makes good sense when you are the one making the bombs. Don't forget Eisenhower's farewell speech. He warned against exactly the situation we have in the Bush administration now. That is an administration with too close ties to Eisenhower's "industrial military complex." Those guys love war. Are any of the kids on your block coming back in a box, I wonder...
