California real estate shaking seems likely. <The housing market over here is starting to look a bit shaky.> But with luck, just by earthquake. Lots of luck.

Hi jfred. I'm checking in after a spot of bother in the markets. USA housing has certainly had and is continuing to enjoy a dose of "volatility", which is always a lot of fun.

It's now another half year since your post and an imploding, margin-busting deflationary cascading collapse is nowhere in sight.

House price reductions have been modest.

Big Ben hasn't even hinted that interest rates are about to be raced down again to save the economy. His helicopter is in the hangar.

Let's see how things are going after another few months of housing permit reduction and housing construction drops.

Unless housing squeezes on mortgaged "owners" gets more of them by the throat, DEFLATION is going to be as hard to find as WMDs in Saddam's palaces.

Gold hasn't gone down in price. Neither has oil. Consumer price indices are not in freefall, nor in fall. At best they might be considered "disinflationary". Lots of things are not going down in price. But neither are they zooming up in price.

Overall, the burgeoning global economy is enabling Big Ben to create umpteen freshly pixelated dollars without inflation. The profits of control continue to be fantastic. The same game is going on around the world.

Keeping a watch,
Mqurice
