Hi Frank,

Networks get "purpose built" when funding requires said purpose.

We should start a pool on the number of funding sources required to cover Rhode Island (1M POPs) - 20 entities - 2000 entities?

Given that Rhode Island is 1214 sq. miles and Mountain View took 380 APs to cover ~12 sq. miles, lets hazard a guess:

RI is > 20k APs * $5K installed = $50/POP = ? highway bridges. Not a big committment.

Noone is doing 1 Mbps per POP to 1M people for < $20/POP so we are in the ballpark.

Outdoor Pre Draft N will ship next year, and will be good enough.

ARUBA NETWORKS INSTALLS WORLD'S LARGEST WIRELESS LAN AT OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY

This one is planning to have 10,000 Access Points under management. It all seems so sensible but no doubt a new service industry is being created.
