All my life I have been hearing that...
"Taxes are bad for business. Environmental standards are bad for business. Car mileage standards are bad for business." So, we deferred to business, and now we don't have any. So let's tax the hell out of them. Back to 35% like under JFK, when we led the world, and were the richest nation, the largest creditor in the world. What does deferring to business get you? Current mileage standards in the US...24 mpg, Cal 25mpg, the rest of the world, 28-46 mpg; who are we gonna sell cars to?
No, let's defer to business; they want to kill the Cal standards because, by 2016, we require cars to be almost as efficient as China does now; 36 mpg for them, 35 for us. Sure, let's give it up for GM, cuz what's good; for GM is good for the USA...not.
