That was Jim's health plan. I was the one who responded with the talk of rational plans. Truth be told though, you nailed me--i have much the same plan as Jim.

Jeff, my point exactly. If your SIL could just pay the medicare approved prices for her healthcare, she wouldn't NEED insurance, except in the case of something really big, like a car accident or maybe a diagnosis of a serious disease. And just about everyone could afford a catastrophic policy like that.

Just for the record, my dental policy is about the same, they pay a preset price, and the dentist accepts it, even though he bills uninsured people at a much higher rate. If I could just pay his reduced insurance prices, I wouldn't need dental insurance.
