Good question.

Not one I have an easy answer to but only because there is only one race of national significance, and it has its own political issues apart from Katrina, namely, the race against Bill Jefferson.

It's the only race that interests me this year, and it appears that he will be getting substantial opposition. Whether it is successful remains to be seen. God help us if he is reelected. I can see our krewe's Mardi Gras floats already--The Crook and The Fool comes immediately to mind.

This is a good recap:

In short, there is nothing on the political horizon which is directly affected by Katrina, though I assume Dollar Bill's opponents will make the potent argument that he cannot do much for the city post-Katrina if he has been stripped of his juicy committee appointments, facing prosecution, etc., thanks to his evident corruption. That's the only glaring Katrina "effect" I see, but I am no pro.

Here's a good Bill Jefferson joke my son told me:

"It was sooooo hot yesterday...."

"How hot was it?"

"It was so hot Bill Jefferson used his freezer to make ice."

CB, Well, they reelected Mayor Nagin. I'd say that probably answers your question. - Holly
