nice to see this is understood by apple now. So the new MBs won't have the problem and the old ones need a new heat sink.

Its a pain, but not the end of the world. A heat sink and thermometer is not that significant of a part, and the holiday season machines won't have the issue.

They have been repairing the heat sinks for a few weeks so my guess is if you buy a machine today, which is not retail old stock, it has the fix.

MacBook (13"): Apple acknowledges sudden shutdowns in Knowledge Base article

Apple has finally acknowledged an issue we've covered extensively in recent weeks: sudden, seemingly random shutdowns exhibited by various MacBook (13") models.

The Knowledge Base article states simply:

"If your MacBook is shutting down intermittently, please contact AppleCare for service."

As such, if you are experiencing sudden shutdowns, you should refrain from attempting any do-it-yourself repairs and return the unit to Apple for service, as they have likely identified the proper defective components and should offer a quick turnaround time.
