With all due respect, Art, I highly doubt Qualcomm will miss, expect them to guide up and/or exceed, and question the your irresponsible suggestion that you have negative inside information. In fact, legal fees remain a nuisance, though barely a rounding error. And, using the antitrust decision of last week as an example, those fees are being well spent.

Also they have used more postage this quarter. Is a disaster brewing? <vbg>

I have it on good authority that QCOM earnings may be below expectations for the quarter ending Sept. 30, owing to increased legal fees.

A one penny drop in earnings would be the result of around a $24 million increase in legal fees. I've never looked closely at how much Q spends on legal costs, but I have a hard time seeing how Keitel could underestimate the expense by anywhere near that much. That would be the equivalent of 24,000 extra hours of work at the highest billing rate in the country last year (a 70 year old lawyer in Washington).

Qualcomm might miss because of a smaller than expected takeup of WCDMA or higher R&D expenses....but something is wrong if they cant estimate their legal fees within $24 million for a single quarter.

It is likely that over the past 12 months that increased interest earnings more than offset increased legal expenses.
