Peter,
Wall Street activity relating to brokers taking advantage of one's trading acumen is well documented. It is call "front-running"...where a brokerage firms gets an order(buy or sale) and the trader places his or her order ahead of yours...

Years ago, before I began making my trades via the internet I had a friend that was the branch manager for a large firm...and if a broker got a "interesting" order from a "key" account...the word would spread intantly throughout the office. Can't say the account owners name was used, but a code word like "Big Guy" just bought XYZ...watch it!

Let say you open an account with GoodGuy Brokerage house with only $1,000....within months your account grows to $100,000. When the account was $1,000 your phone calls from GoodGuy would be like the Maytag repairman...never. When it gets to $100,000 ...your phone will ring off the hook, with GoodGuy wanting to make sure you are happy with their service.

There is no doubt...they mine your account for data...remember for street accounts the stock is in their name and shows up as their asset. Also, when they get an order to short a stock, they have to check to see if shares are available in customer's accounts that are available to be shorted.

This strictly relates to individuals because mutual funds and such have to file each quarter as to what they hold in their accounts.
