07:29 AAPL Apple Computer: Expect iPhone in next 4-6 months; iPhone to add incremental revs and earnings, negative impact on margins - Piper Jaffray (72.52 )

Piper Jaffray does not expect AAPL to announce a phone tomorrow, but continues to expect AAPL will ship the "iPhone" within the next 4-6 months. Firm says assuming AAPL ships the iPhone at Macworld-07, firm's sensitivity analysis points to between 6%-10% upside to Street CY07 EPS. Firm has not seen any concrete evidence that the product is near completion or launch. Firm says there have been multiple indications that AAPL is planning to introduce an iPhone, including: 1) registering the domain name iPhone.org in 1999; 2) trademarking the name "Mobile Me" in Jan-06; 3) comments from an Asian news source in May-06 reporting that Softbank, a Japanese cell phone service provider, had reached an agreement with Apple to jointly develop cell phones; and 4) CFO comments related to music phone market on June quarter conf call. Firm says assuming the iPhone is shipped early CY07, they expect the co will sell 8-12 mln iPhones in the calendar year. Firm expects buyers of the iPhone to be those who have previously owned a higher ASP HDD iPod. Firm notes they assume a 10% operating margin, which is in-line with Palm. Firm says the iPhone will add incremental rev and earnings, but could have a slight negative margin impact.
