We would have the same right to self-defense as we have under any circumstances where we are attacked -- no more and no less. These is nothing unique about the circumstances you describe. I doubt that the conclusion would be to simply "lob one back" as you so tellingly phrase it. If our military are doing their job properly they would take steps to prevent further attack -- that is self-defense. Our response should be to defend ourselves -- nothing less and nothing more.
