As you know, i am a big supporter of israel but i view this as both a strategic and tactical initiative. The sharon pullouts in retrospect were not going to work because land for peace wont work when the misery index in the pal areas is so high. And misery is not only eco misery but also involves lack of hope. The fact the arabs as a people are responsible for most of the misery that has befallen pals is overlooked by most of the world with the notable exception of the US. But that too can change and after lebanon, i expect israels numbers have indeed gone down here too. Israel is like Bush--both are essentially correct about the threat they face and both have not been successful for the most part in confronting that threat while inflaming world public opinion. Israel reaching out like de Gaulle during algeria is much the same thing bush should be doing with our erstwhile allies. Neoconism has failed but there are other ways to skin a cat.
