I've discussed setting up charge accounts with several vendors -- they always charge a fee to the merchants. A monthly fee, and a transaction fee, and if I recall correctly, the size of the fee varies by the size of the transaction.

If you do enough volume I think they may rebate some of it, but that's why the smaller merchants only take cash, or impose a minimum charge limit on plastic.
