It's election season. Time for the Republicans to claim that the Iraq war and the WOT make us safer, and the Democrats to say it doesn't.

The next two months will be like this:

"Does so!"
"Does not!"
"Does so!"
"Does not!"
"Does so!"
"Does not!"
"Does so!"
"Does not!"
etc.

I totally agree.

The changes in security needs and dynamics are totally different than they were a few years ago. For the decades leading up to 2000 I never gave much thought to safety (with respect to international terrorism). The offensive efforts of the government may have made a huge difference over the past few years but there are also huge new efforts to threaten us that are viable, with more in the planning stages.

We may be safer than if we had done nothing but I don't think you can conclude than we are safer than before there was an international terrorist movement.
