In "higher education" faculty should be promoted based on their ability to rise to the top of thier field of study. Over the past 4 decades there has been a deliberate effort to move the wrong political type (old conservative white guys) out of high ranking positions and move a demographic representing what ever is an extreme opposite to that up in the ranks. The current demographic is solidly liberal extremists with some rare exceptions. I am even sort of surprised that they were able to oust Ward Churchhill from The University of Colorado at Boulder under the circumstances. Not surprised that it took years to move him out. There was a time when he wouldn't have lasted two seconds given his obvious fraud.
