Even one of Harry Turtledove's alternate histories would be an improvement. He's good. Just read one of his; 'Household Gods' threw a pretty interesting light on life back in the Roman Empire... :)
We should be so lucky to have a leader such as Marcus Aurelius. Instead we got Commodus, one of the weaker links in the line...
