BOSTON, Oct 3 (Reuters) - U.S. regulators have asked Brocade Communications Systems Inc. (BRCD.O: Quote, Profile, Research) and McData Corp. (MCDT.O: Quote, Profile, Research) for additional information regarding their proposed $713 million merger, the companies said on Tuesday.

The U.S. Federal Trade Commission conducted an initial review of the deal, first announced on Aug. 8, and has requested additional information and documents related to the transaction, the two companies said in regulatory filings.

Brocade and McData, which both make equipment for data storage networks, did not elaborate on the type of information included in the request.
