I can say with a fairly high degree of confidence that you won't find a simple majority, or even a very large minority of conservatives actively campaigning for ID.

I'd agree. I don't think you will find even a large minority of conservatives actively campaigning for anything. People who actually campaign for causes are quite small minorities of the US population. My point was that they will vote for such changes, given the chance. Hence my objection to McCain, who has, in his runup to running, kissed up with conservatives over this issue.

More on the original topic the percentage of libertarian conservatives supporting ID, or saying that evolution is not the major factor in the development of the diversity of species is clearly not a majority, and likely only a small minority.

Sans a poll, it is hard to say, but it is hard to find any major group in the USA with less than 25% support creationism. Left leaning college grads are about the only such group, with strong support of evolution up in the high 70's or into the 80's IIRC.

Your argument only shows that AEI doesn't consider support for ID to be the moral or logical equivalent of Holocaust denial. It doesn't show that such support is the official position of AEI, or the position of most of its members or leaders.

It certainly shows that AEI is FAR more tolerant of the idea at any rate.
