That post has to be something written for a sitcom. Too bad Seinfeld is not in production anymore. That is a dialogue they could have put in the mouth of Elaine or George. Incredible PC'ness. You will never recoup the extra cost of a Prius with your gasoline savings and wait until you have to replace the battery in five years. Buy a Matrix and realize some real savings. Of course I guess you will have to see how the PC wind is blowing in the office first. By the way what is a VC - a Viscount?

Please note, that hybrid cars is about making early adopters finance new developments, that may eventually result in products, that may be more environment friendly than other products. You don't help the environment when you drive that car.

The California Department of Transportation, which has issued carpool-lane stickers for about 50,000 hybrid cars, plans to study the effect of hybrids on carpool lanes in Southern California. "There's not enough excess capacity to absorb the hybrids," said James Moore, director of the University of Southern California's transportation engineering program. "I think the foreseeable outcome here is that the congestion advantage we traditionally attribute to (carpool) lanes will disappear."
A debate over carpool-lane congestion also is occurring in Virginia, which like California allows solo hybrid drivers to use the lanes. Last month, the Virginia Legislature placed restrictions on hybrid drivers using the lanes in peak hours.

But California officials say they've been administering about 200 such stickers a day, and once Caltrans issues 50,000 decals, it will reassess the program and its impact on HOV-lane congestion.

If the 90-day study reveals that HOV lanes are packed like sardines, it could call off the program altogether as soon as this summer.

Don't get used to that diamond lane. You may not have it long.
