I understand that, but it is offered as a scientific hypothesis. I'm prepared to offer its advocates the courtesy of calling it that. There's no harm in doing that, I don't think, because we know that there's no way to prove it and it can't move forward scientifically. I always try to concede what I can when the opposition is so overmatched. I don't think it's useful to rub anyone's nose in anything.

Hypothesis has a wider related meaning that isn't limited to scientific hypotheses.

A scientific hypotheses is tested using the scientific method. But hypotheses are not just tested empirically

2 : a tentative assumption made in order to draw out and test its logical or empirical consequences
