I think the fundamental tie between Libertarian and fundamentalist Christians of many flavors is a very strong identification with "freedom of choice" as the dominant mode of human action.

I think that much freedom of choice from the right is flying a flag of convenience much like states rights during the civil rights movement. The libertarian right is actually into choice but for the social conservatives it is opportunistic.
