"My point was a lot of those who support taking action against the GAP are not exactly strong supporters of the free market"

That speculation could have simply been stated. More important would be to tell us why this obvious point needs reminding?

It is generally known that free people in free countries have all sorts of opinions regarding the free market. In a mixed economy such as in America one finds all sorts of people who want more Government involvement and those whom want less. We have Capitalists and we have laissez-faire capitalists--and we have infinite degrees of opinion in between.

I don't know a lot of "actions" that can be taken to reduce the GAP. Fighting corruption in Government--and their underlings and sycophants; encouraging private and public charity foundations come to mind. If a community wishes to improve a standard of living they may democratically choose to assist people with disabilities, inabilities, or antagonistic attitudes--as a matter of self interest.

The point you made rests on common knowledge and is somewhat superfluous.
