if trust means believe without examining or looking at other sources, I'd agree. I s'pose there are topics of interest to the gubmnt, for which we can find no conceivable motive for them to lie ...

The other day on NPR they were interviewing a fellow from the WSJ who had been shadowed by HPQ because he was trying to get the skinny when Fiorina was about to be ousted. They employed people to snoop using "pre-texting", i.e. pretending to be him in order to get his personal records. In the minds of those on a "holy mission" whether it be anti-terrorism or those in the pursuit of "known" crooks -- "pre-texting" would seem to be just another "means" to achieve an important and good end --

So we get a new word for lying -- "pre-texting." Setting someone up, lying to them is OK -- if they're bad. This sort of thinking is rampant in the curent administration, imo.
