This implies that it is the unrelegulated US vs the regulated Europe/Japan. This keeps in the minds of the people the idea that US is a free market. This is a myth. Truth is: what the US lacks in regulation, (written rules to each all members should abide to) it has unwritten rules created by "shrewd politicking and consorting with a limited set of peers on the control of saleable merchandise and services was not only an honorable trait (going back to etc...

Now try keep the politics out of it: Telecom Act of 96; the White House, the FCC and the Courts.
