Why is buying a house today worse than buying a house during Carter's disaster?

Sounds like today's talking heads:
"The sixth principle, and the cornerstone of our policy, is to reduce the demand through conservation.

Conservation ain't going to accomplish anything. Gasoline is a revenue stream for the bureaucrats. Kinda like cigarettes. Oh sure, it's bad and we need to increase taxes on them. But the govt has decided they need the revenue stream from cigarette taxes just like fuel taxes, more than the greater good. If cigarettes are Soooooo bad, then why aren't they banned? If fuel conservation is Sooooo necessary, then why isn't it enforced? Follow the money.

Pie in the sky wishful thinking sounds good but don't hold your breath waiting on Scotty to show up with some power converters...
