what I find laughable is the number of recs on Laz's posts bashing this company.
Really irritating, isn't it? :-)

There is nothing to dislike about this Tesla car company, which receives NO government subsidies and and doing the traditional VC startup company approach to building a manufactured product for sale in US markets. Whats not to like? Apparently plenty- ahahha!
You REALLY think a $100,000 car is going too make ANY difference in the oil problem???????
What planet do you live on?

When EXXON has a new discovery do those on this thread RELENTLESSLY BASH IT? No of course not.
No. Because even given a reasonably priced electric car, it would STILL be at least 5 years before it made any significant difference in oil consumption. You could expect 10-15 years before a full turnover. At least. And that new oil from a new XOM discovery could lower gasoline prices well before that. That's why. J6P is NOT a Vulture Capitalist and has NO HOPE of buying a $100,000 car. A drop in gas prices from $3.25 to 2.75 a gallon DOES benefit him. And all the businesses that get the money he doesn't spend on gas. This is what YOU refuse to recognize. I think every American would very much like a situation where we never imported another drop of oil and XOM practically had to give the stuff away. Then we wouldn't need deals with the corrupt, cruel Saudis and Paks and could blow the hell out of them for 911 and tell Iran to stop nuke production or face the same. But you won't get there with lithium batteries and super-luxury priced cars. That's what you had best face up to.

Maybe J6P is smarter than you liberals give him credit for.

Also, the electricity for those batteries has to be generated somehow. I'm sure you're aware we recently had some close calls with electricity shortages and rolling blackouts. What do you think several million batteries recharging are going to do?

Because you secretly envision XOM as a sort of safe status quo company, one with red state ties, that promotes all these gas guzzling SUVs and other uber consumerism that you folks seem to admire... and this Tesla company scares the sh!t out of you!
When did you become a mind reader? You're a pretty poor one. At some point, XOM and the other companies are going to run out of reserves. As that approaches, $3 a gallon gas is going to be a fond memory. We had BETTER be off the oil addiction before that. Or face a sinking economy and poverty.

Its not like Tesla is going to put XOM out of business. They could start a revolution to electric vehicles though, and that would sure SUCK for XOM!
At $100,000 a car? I doubt if anyone at XOM has even thought about them. If you take that price down to $15,000-$30,000 a car, you could put XOM out of business. Or force it to do what the tobacco companies did- -diversify to survive and forget the oil.

If an SUV is a better vehicle for the masses at a better pricepoint/value then Tesla will go out of business, its just that simple. But remember, price alone is not the final arbiter just look at Apple vs. Dell right now. Apple is red hot, Dell not.
Maybe you didn't notice something. AAPL has very much LOWERED its prices from the rip-off it used to do. That and an easy-to-use OS has changed the business. But don't write off the PC. There are lots and lots of companies involved with them, there are other OS's such as Linux available for them, and if you expect them to disappear, you are smoking the stuff that makes you think a $100,000 car is a revolution.
