Hollywood – Democrats have erupted in outrage over the latest footage to be leaked from ABC’s upcoming TV miniseries “The Path to 9/11,” which shows former President Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton flying the planes that destroyed the World Trade Center. “It’s very common to boil down many real life people to one character in a movie,” ABC president Steve McPherson said in response to the criticisms. “We simply thought it would be too confusing to have all the different people responsible for 9/11 in our film, we combined them all into one composite character named William Jefferson Clinton.” In what was previously thought to be the most controversial scene from the film, Clinton’s National Security Advisor Sandy Berger declines to give the CIA authority to capture or kill Osama bin Laden after CIA operatives report that they know where the al-Qaeda leader is. However, Dateline Hollywood has learned that in a subsequent scene, Clinton has a conversation with his old friend Bin Laden, whom the film says he met at anti-Vietnam War protests in London when the future president was a student at Oxford. “The CIA is on my ass here,” the terrorist leader tells Clinton. “I can’t get out to take that trip we’ve been talking about.” “Don’t worry, OBL,” the former President replies, using an acronym for his old friend. “Hillary and I will take the trip on our own. We thought we might hit lower Manhattan, if you know what I mean.” In the film, both Clintons parachute out of their planes just before the explosion. They are caught in helicopters flown by John Kerry and Howard Dean and returned to their home in Chappaqua, New York before anyone realizes they were gone. Numerous liberal blogs have exploded at the latest revelation, accusing ABC and its parent company, Disney, of airing right wing propaganda as fact. “This movie is supposed to be based on the 9/11 Commission’s report, but they’re obviously just making shit up,” wrote Josh Marshall of TalkingPointsMemo.com. “If ABC airs this propaganda, I can promise you I will be ending my TiVo Season Pass to ‘According to Jim.’” But conservatives are shooting back, accusing liberal critics of hypocrisy. “Liberals are supposed to be defenders of free speech, but here they are trying to censor their friends in Hollywood now that Bill Clinton looks a little bad,” wrote Jean Kathryn Lopez on National Review’s “The Corner” blog. “I didn’t see them getting this worked up when some books made equally irresponsible charges that President Bush twisted evidence to support the invasion of Iraq.” Sources at ABC say they are editing the film as a response to the protests, which have also included a letter from the Congressional Democratic leadership and President Clinton’s office. “We’re digitally inserting terrorist co-pilots just to make certain nobody thinks we are saying the Clintons are entirely responsible for 9/11,” said a source at ABC. “Of course we realize that Al Qaeda should bear some of the guilt as well.”
