They might sound like that. But really what has driven this new found ideal of relinquishing constitutional rights is fear. Fear of getting hit again by the terrorists. At the heart of that fear is 9-11. Remember that Bush and Cheney were strongly against any formation of a 9-11 commission. That's important information. Why would our leaders be against studying the largest terrorist strike against us in history?
So the fear starts at the top. Then it has what I think are well meaning citizens saying it's ok to wiretap, or snoop in on Americans. It's ok to shut someone up if their opinion differs from the government.

But our government is unique, in that the power is retained always by the people. "We the people". The rest of the government works for us. The founders set up the constitution so that our elected officials remain accountable to us. First we have the intra government checks and balances. Then we have the right to vote at regular intervals. We have the petition and we have impeachment.

When folks see that their rights are being eroded, they'd better vote the right way, or pretty soon they won't have any rights at all. Freedom of speech is paramount to a democracy. Without it, you have a fascist regime. Freedom of the press is part of the freedom of speech. But who owns the presses, the tv stations, the radio stations? We're seeing wholesale buying up of these companies, thus reducing the voices of freedom to a single monolithic echo chamber.

Now were seeing the pressure to segment the internet and to regulate the internet, because this is the way that Americans have to get the most unbiased information. Either that or there is more choice of information on the internet regardless of bias, then it's up to the reader to separate the wheat from the chaff.

But the information we get from the MSM is monolithic for the most part. Homogenized news, Mc News if you will.

So freedom of speech is already eroded. Any further erosion will definitely be the death knell for our nation. We must have a robust discussion. If certain people are jailed or silenced by way of threats or influence, then that is a miscarriage of justice. It's unconstitutional for sure.
