"IJ says: 'Applications' is more interesting than 'Transmission'

Message 22798315 ( following the link from Eric L. on 3G board)

Ineteresting talk basically on innovation and patent reform.
Emphasis on his disagreement with a couple of recent court decisions and proposed legislation is condensed at about 21:00 to 26:00.

Interesting Q&A from about 28:00, including an offhand scoffing at WiMax wrt timing reminiscent of delays in probable usefulness similar to IJ's 2001 warning on WCDMA delays, followed by a quick fencing match with a young Intel guy. Commentary on ETSI voting rules, devaluation of fundamental patents by patent counting, etc. etc.. Lookin' good.

Bingo - That's what Qualcomm and many of the existing wireless operators have been saying for some time. Then you layer in the fact that the WiMax spectrum and ecosystem still don't even exist. Makes you wonder why all the Hype?

What is your analysis of this study? The charts on pages 9 and 10 <What is your analysis of this study? The charts on pages 9 and 10 appeared to show that EVDO and HSDPA have similar functional characteristics to what will be offered by WiMax>

I don't have an analysis - I just skimmed through it and think that WiMax doesn't have a large advantage [or any] over W-CDMA and CDMA2000 best devices.
