Not in principle there isn't. But it doesn't bring another competitor into the picture, so it helps nothing on that all-important front.

Guess you haven't been watching Lafayette Louisiana the past couple years, and Bell South's antics to try, over and over and over, to kill their fiber project. Same with Qwest and the Utopia fiber project in Utah, and a couple others. In both Qwest and BLS's case they were offered participation and flatly refused.
