The metaphor that leaps to mind is that of the chess game. Given that we've got two more months before the vote, every move will get countered by another move.

Much of it will get hashed out at the national level.

But there are some local races that may spin on local politics and/or ethics. The Mendendez/Kean race in NJ looks like one.

Menendez is campaigning on Kean's ties to Bush; Kean is trying to tie a corruption tag on Mendendez.

That latter strategy has gotten Kean back in the race.
