The Bush-assassination fantasies like "Death of a President", "Checkpoint", Air America's "jokes", the NY State Controllers mis-speech saying Sen. Schumer would "put a bullet between the President's eyes if he could" etc. - I find shocking. I've never seen anything like this in America in my lifetime. This is KKK-style, fascistic hate-talk. Clinton was hated by conservatives, but I cannot recall anyone calling for or publicly fantasizing about Clinton's assassination - jokingly or otherwise. Rush Limbaugh mocked and attacked the Clinton's every day Clinton was in the WH - at times stepping over the line of good taste and good judgment, but did he or any other similar figure ever fantasize about Clinton's assassination? I don't remember it. And I think if it had happened, it would have been front page news (kudos to Jacoby for calling attention to this negative feature that has inexpicably been ignored and tolerated) and would have ruined his career, deservedly so. Why does so much of the left have to be so much more vile and morally depraved (and I think term definitely fits for publicly expressed death wishes) than their opposite numbers? What will be next - will we see American leftwingers chanting "Death to Bush" or "Death to Rumsfeld" like Muslim extremists chant "Death to America", "Death to Rushdie", etc.? I am shocked and disgusted!

Farewell comments on the thread from Mr. Dithers: From: J. C. Dithers I find myself banned from the "Polite Political" thread for posting a column from the Boston Globe in my reply to your post. Our host apparently has no tolerance for opinions opposed to her own, even those published in a liberal newspaper with a long record of Pulitzer prize awards. I am not able to reply on the thread, but my suggestion is that the header be amended to reflect the fact that posters will be banned purely for opinion content that displeases the moderator. My banning is a trivial matter, yet it does speak to the important topic of intolerance of dissent. I give you permission to post this private message on the thread if you so choose. However, we both know that such a post would likely be your last on the thread, so I understand fully if you choose not to post it. JC
