The competition is a bunch of two seat sports cars, with prices from 1/3 to 1/2 that of the Tesla. You can get a Nissan 350Z convertible for around 1/3 the price. Porsche Boxsters for around 1/2 the price. A Corvette Z06 with 505 horsepower for around 70-75k. For that matter, you can buy a 911 for less than the Tesla. If you buy a 350Z and put the 60k saved in the bank at 5%, that should buy you a thousand gallons/year for the Z, so what is the point of the Tesla as things stand today? Your point about Tesla being in the same position as Apple was a year ago is simply LAUGHABLE. If you think a shop that doesn't have the resources to actually MAKE the car (using Lotus) is going to scale up to anything worth mentioning in terms of units, you really have no clue about the car biz and the sums required. If you told me these guys had some cool tech that might be used as parts by the majors in the future I'd be more inclined to pay attention. Otherwise, forget it.

John

PS - I guess it must be those Silicon Valley salaries again, as I don't know too many folks that think 100k for a CAR isn't a big deal. Read some surveys on what percentage of the car market the 100k level represents and you will see what I mean...

>>I don't like going to the gas station. I don't like the experience of having to get up and fill my gas tank, get gasoline on my hands and get dirty.<<

My advice to you? Wear gloves!

BTW, what is your favorite tree to hug? And what does this topic have to do with Microsoft?
