Cingular to roll out Nokia's new E62 for $150
Tue Sep 12, 2006 8:51am ET

HELSINKI, Sept 12 (Reuters) - The world's top handset maker Nokia (NOK1V.HE: Quote, Profile, Research) said Cingular Wireless will start to sell its new E62 business phone model, a direct rival to RIM's (RIM.TO: Quote, Profile, Research) successful BlackBerry phones, for $149.99 later this month.

Cingular, a joint venture of AT&T (T.N: Quote, Profile, Research) and BellSouth (BLS.N: Quote, Profile, Research), is the largest mobile carrier in the United States.

In Finland, Nokia's home country, retailers sell the similar E61 model for an unsubsidised price of about 400 euros ($510).

The model is from Nokia's Enterprise division, which has suffered from falling sales in recent quarters due to a lack of new phones, but aims to be profitable in 2007.

T-Mobile was set to start selling the sleekest new BlackBerry called Pearl on Tuesday for $199. (Reporting by Tarmo Virki in Helsinki and Sinead Carew in New York)

Next Tuesday: The Nseries to be expanded, in four-city live event?

Steve Litchfield of All About Symbian writes ...

tinyurl.com

Eagle-eyed me(!) has just spotted public notice of this simultaneous four-city live event, Open Studio 2006¹, to happen next Tuesday. In fact, it's a lot more than four, as separate events are also scheduled by Nokia PR in many other cities. Rafe and Darla will be in New York, I'll be in London, to make sure you don't miss anything. Our best guess is a clutch of new Nseries 'multimedia computers', but you'll have to wait til Tuesday for any more....
