I had a similar experience not long ago with a loyal Republican who just came out and BLASTED Bush, called him every epithet in the book and then suggested some, ah.. less than moderate remedies. When I expressed a bit of surprise, he explained he is just so very disappointed in Bush..had high hopes for him, took him at his word, and once his opinion turned it turned big time. Another factor, I think is another friend, who has two sons in the military, both serving the Persian Gulf region. We've both heard some interesting and negative feedback from him.
