One reason I left government service before ever knowing who would win the 2000 election was the general problem I saw under administrations from both parties; things get so jammed up in the bureaucracy, folks lose their sense of right and wrong, and also their sense that things need to get done. Brimley's character was the rare type who grabbed hold of a situation, said we're gonna sort this out pronto, then made sure the right things happened in the end. Today we would get mealymouthed pablum about how wonderful the prosecution was despite the leaks and attacks on anyone who objected to the consequent slander.
