That's what happens when you cram large portions of intelligence, liberalism & ego into one cranium. All too often you end up with someone who convinces themselves they are extraordinarily superior than their peers. They see themselves as an elite elite with few, if any peers. They "feel" that once they have made up their mind on any issue that it is permanently set in stone. These opinions become rock solid fact. That's why you quickly learn they are impervious to & often hostile when confronted with any facts that run counter to their opinions. They look down on most people with utter contempt & it is reflected in their discourse with others. That's why they always seem to talk down to you even when you are in agreement. They don't consider their sneers, leers, invective laced calumny & epithets as uncivil or personal attacks. In their egocentric world they are simply well known facts. As long as you are in agreement with these people, they are generally easy to get along with. But if you begin to differ with them, look out. Since they see almost everyone as mental midgets, your dissention is taken as a personal affront rather than a discussion of differing POV's. That's why they seem to have almost no tolerance for any POV that doesn't fit into their inflexible world view - IOW, you're an idiot attacking them personally. And from my POV, X "The Assholious" is about as close as you can get to a perfect example of what I described.
