I really have utterly no desire to see the US leave Iraq, regardless of the root cause of the war. The insurgents seized the opportunity to go after power once we gave Saddam the boot. We got 2 wars once we went into Iraq - the one with Saddam & the one with Al Quaeda. Once we were there, we have been able to conduct a thorough clamp down on Al Quaeda in almost every regard. Now, the smoldering "sectarian" violence keeps rambling on without any regard for human life on either side. It just goes to show that the terrorists are only seeking power. Did you see the declaration of war made by al quaeda yesterday? They want to wage war against Saudi Arabia and Egypt because they supported the Israeli attack against Lebanon. IMO, people just don't get it that the Sunni facist regimes of the ME are the best protection against these suicide bombers that want to prove their love for God by cleaning the ME of all external influences, especially Israel. The dissident fundamentalism has been closely tied into the overall intolerance of the leading Sunni movements. It's hard for me to find the fine line between Wahhab fundamentalism and Al Quaeda jihadism. Maybe it takes a facist to stop a facist. Anyways, I think our best allies in this so called WW3 are the Sunni governments. They have utterly contained terrorism and violence outside of Iraq for the past 5 years, although it is returning to Afghanistan. At the same time, they are hesitant to show their support against the war on terror. Apparently, Saudi Arabia and Egypt were fucking pissed that the US announced their support for Isreal to defend against hezbelloh. Rumsfelt probably announced it himself. (I read a disturbing article that Rumsfelt revealed the identity of the Army story regarding the Abu Gharib prison story in GQ this month.) Now, the Saudis have to be seething mad since al quaeda has singled them out as a new target because some US official said they supported the Israeli decision to wipe out S Lebanon. The psychotic pattern of behavior by the terrorists is to use any provokation to identify a new Muslim target to kill that has been tainted by Western influence. They are desperate for any chance to take control of the national interests of any Muslim country. Look at what the terrorists did today in Syria. They attacked the US Embassy and they barely got a headline!! That's beautiful, IMO. I'm sure the terrorists would have gotten headlines had they managed to explode the truck before they all got shot. I like the analogy about the Chinese finger tap, but I think it should be applied to the sectarian violence. The more we wish to leave, the more they kill themselves. Not the best way to get the cops to leave your party. It's ironic that the killers are now begging us to stay now they have to face hardened justice by the Iraqi military. I would be scared shitless if I were a Sunni terrorist in Iraq. They know they are going to get pulled away from their family during the middle of the night, never to be seen again. They also know the presence of the US will give them a better chance for justice.
