Saddam had transformed himself from a secular leader. several of his extended family fled the country rather than comply with his demand that they become versed in the language of religious fanatics so they could manipulate it. The evidence remains that there was cooperation between Saddam's Iraq and Al Qaeda. There was the famous meeting in Romania, the Al Qaeda training camp in Iraq, there was the Iraqi written training manual for Al Qaeda in Afghanistan, etc. Splitting heirs and claiming that because Bin Laden was not talking with Saddam there were no links is disingenuous.
