Attacks attributed to Jund al-Sham
Major violence claimed by the suspected al-Qaida-linked group Jund al-Sham or blamed on them by officials:

- Sept. 12, 2006: Gunmen attacked the U.S. Embassy in Damascus with automatic weapons and grenades but were repulsed by Syrian guards in a battle that killed three assailants and one Syrian anti-terrorism officer.

- June 2, 2006: A battle between Syrian security forces and militants near the Defense Ministry in Damascus killed four militants and a police officer.

- March 14, 2006: Syrian anti-terrorism forces killed a top member of the group, Mohammad Ali Nasif, and his bodyguard in a battle northwest of Damascus.


- June 9, 2005: Syrian forces raided a suspected terrorist hideout near Damascus, killing two men, arresting a third and foiling alleged bombing plots that targeted the nation's Justice Palace.

- March, 2005: Jund al-Sham claimed responsibility for three bombings in the Christian quarter of the Lebanese capital, Beirut, killing three and wounding three.

- March 19, 2005: Jund al-Sham claimed responsibility for a bombing outside an international school in Doha, capital of the Gulf nation of Qatar. The attack killed one and wounded 12.

- July 19, 2004: Jund al-Sham claimed responsibility for a car bomb that killed a Hezbollah official.

The Syrians now claim the attack was orchestrated by the Americans.
