>Z, I just can't buy into your position that I have nothing to do with where I am today and as such, I can't believe most people in bad situations had nothing to do with being there.

I never said that you had nothing to do with where you are today. But there's of course more to the story than that. I worked my ass off in college working well more than full-time while going to school full-time to get where I am today (and I'm doing very well and haven't even hit 30 yet), but I grew up among plenty of people that have been able to have just as much as I do without working nearly as hard because their parents have money. Mine didn't, though my dad did work 90 hours per week when I was growing up. Meanwhile, some of my friends' parents actually made it on the back of my dad...

>I know my friend's father died six months after getting melanoma. The best healthcare in the world isn't going to save you.

Maybe not in that case, but it many other cases it can. That's a cop-out.

>As for her, the system needs to actively pursue deadbeats. I know women with kids that haven't heard from their husbands after the divorce. That's the solution, not come after my paycheck.

We need to do both... but we also need to ensure that if you're having money taken out of your paycheck, you're getting something for it, too.
